About the event
This training will dive into how trauma and crisis impact children at different developmental stages by exploring how behaviors, emotions, and relationships are shaped by early adverse experiences. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the “why” behind a child’s reactions and how to respond in ways that promote safety and connection.
Building on this foundation, the Mental Health First Aid for Youth portion will focus on recognizing signs of emotional distress, understanding common mental health diagnoses in children and adolescents, and learning effective communication and de-escalation strategies. Foster parents will leave the session better prepared to respond calmly and confidently when a young person is struggling, ensuring that their home remains a place of healing and stability.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Understand Trauma and Development
